Geographic Information System Tutorial 
Step 1:

Click on Launch Map Viewer.



Step 2:


The start up map will appear.



Step 3:


On the right side of the screen, click on the Land Use folder to open and view the layers. Click on the Zoning check box to show the Zoning layer on the map viewer.

Please note: If you are looking for Specific Plan (SP) information click on the Specific Plans check box to show the name and boundaries of the Specific Plans on the map viewer.

If you are loking for the Sign Program layer click on the Planning folder to open and view the layers. Then click on the Sign Programs check box to show the layer on the map viewer.




Step 4:

The Map Viewer allows you to search for a specific property within the City, for example, by assessor’s parcel number (APN), address, tract map and lot number, etc. The various search options are located in the dropdown menu at the top of the screen. Click on the dropdown menu to locate the search option of your choice and enter the assessor's parcel number, address, tract and lot number, etc.




Step 5:

You can also find a property visually by using the zoom-in button. The zoom-in button is located on the mapviewer toolbar. It is the magnifying glass symbol with the plus sign. To use this tool, click on the zoom-in button and then left-click and drag on the map to create a box around of the general area of the property.

If you need to zoom out the zoom-out button is located on the map viewer toolbar. It is the magnifying glass symbol with the minus sign.To use this tool, click on the zoom-out button and click on the map to zoom out.
 
You may also use the pan tool to move the map up and down and side-to-side without zooming in or out. The pan tool is also located on the mapviewer toolbar and is symbolized by the hand icon. Once you have found the property that you are looking for you can access general information about the property by clicking the information button located to the right of the pan tool icon and then clicking on the property of interest. 




Step 6:

Once your property is located, you will start to see streets and parcels. The zoning classifications are shown by a two letter acronym. The example below is showing CC and LM which stands for Community Commercial and Low Medium Density Residential. For information about each zoning classification click here.





Final Step:

Once you find your zoning classification you can access additional information about the land use regulations and development standards that apply in the given zoning district and also access the Development Code by clicking here
