Redevelopment Improves Temecula Neighborhoods

A number of residential housing improvement projects within the City of Temecula have been financed using Redevelopment Agency funding, resulting in a direct local benefit to the residential community.

In 1996, the Temecula Redevelopment Agency established the Residential Improvement Program (RIP) to promote the preservation of the existing housing stock. Since inception, the Redevelopment Agency has invested just under $2 million into the Program, which has funded over 500 loans and grants to low and moderate income home owners. The goal of the program is to rehabilitate aging homes and improve the overall property values of the neighborhoods in which they are located.

Residential improvements that have been funded by the program include new exterior painting, fencing, roofing, heating and/or air conditioning systems, windows and/or doors, and disability accommodations such as wheelchair ramps. These home improvements would not be possible for Temecula’s low and moderate income households without Redevelopment.

These residential improvement loans and grants have contributed directly to preventing blight in Temecula’s residential neighborhoods, improving the structural integrity of its older housing, and enhancing the health and safety of residents living in these homes. Additionally, each year the Program helps to increase property values and generate significant employment for the local economy. One local contractor stated, “These jobs from the City [RDA] are what’s keeping my business alive.”
