On-Site Temporary Sign

What is a Temporary Sign?
A Temporary Sign is a sign that will be removed after a specific period of time to promote, advertise, announce, or provide the following information:

  • Identifies the name of the business owner or occupant of the premises where the sign is located.
  • Advertises the business conducted or the goods produced, sold, or available on the premises.

This Temporary Sign program does not apply to buildings within the Old Town Specific Plan.

Submit Forms:Application Forms can be submitted at the Development Center Front Counter, City Hall, First Floor.  Please have the following document(s) filled out prior to submission.

Pay Fees:Fees can be paid at the Development Center Cashier's Window, City Hall, First Floor.

  • Permit Fee - $24.00 (2007)

Get Permits:Temporary sign permits are typically issued the day the application is received.

Types of Temporary Signs:See chart below for sign criteria.

  • Temporary Promotional Sign – A sign intended to attract attention to a use or activity for a limited number of events.
  • Attached Temporary Sign – Mounted or attached to the permanent building where the business activity is conducted.
  • Detached Temporary Sign – A sign partially attached to the building where the business activity is conducted.
  • Temporary Grand Opening Sign – Displays the words ‘Grand Opening’.
  • Interim Sign – Sign intended to provide signage while the permanent sign is being fabricated, repaired, or prepared for installation.
  • Temporary Special Event Sign – Sign for special community activities or seasonal events.

Table notes:
1.  Window Signs that are located on non-door window surfaces shall not exceed seventy-five percent (75%) of the non-door window area.
2. Window signs may not be displayed for longer than a ninety (90) day period.
3. A building permit for permanent signage must be applied for from Building and Safety/or documentation from sign company that sign design is in process
