Waste Management

Reduce, reuse recycle!

Waste reduction means creating less trash and waste.  Through actions such as recycling, the city’s goal is to decrease the total amount of waste generated in the city. This in turn will reduce the amount of waste taking up precious space in our landfills.

As a part of the effort to "go green," the City implemented Planet Bids, which allows the City to implement paperless purchasing and also assists the City in purchasing products in a sustainable and responsible manner.

The City is committed to continuing its recycling efforts with CR&R to reduce construction and demolition debris, developing innovative recycling and waste reduction programs city-wide, and establishing waste reduction measures to create less trash.

Did you know?

Just last year it was estimated that the City and CR&R recycled over 80% of construction waste that would have otherwise been disposed of in a landfill.

Every ton of recycled paper saves approximately 4 barrels of oil and 4,200 kilowatt hours of energy - enough to heat and air condition the average home for almost 6 months!

You can make a difference!

  • Next time you shop bring a re-usable bag. Each re-usable bag has the potential to save 1,000 plastic bags over its lifetime.

  • Buy a thermos or ceramic mug and keep one at work and in the car. Every time you visit your favorite coffee house to buy coffee use the mug or thermos instead of a paper or styrofoam cup.

  • Dry cleaners may take back their plastic clothes bags and hangers. When you get home to hang your clothes keep the plastic cover and hangers and recycle them on your next trip to the cleaners.
