BACKGROUND:

On October 8, 2002 the City Council of the City of Temecula adopted an updated Housing Element. Additionally, on April 12, 2005, the City Council adopted a comprehensive update of the General Plan, which included some minor changes to the Housing Element. The State of California requires updates of the Housing Element every six years. The current update cycle requires the City to certify an update to the Housing Element by June 30, 2008.

As part of the Housing Element update, the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development requires that the City conduct public workshops to provide interested parties an opportunity to participate in the process of obtaining information and setting goals and policies. The purpose of public participation is: 1) to educate the public that the City is required by law to provide housing opportunities to all socioeconomic groups, and 2) to engage the public to get their opinions and determine the preferred method(s) of achieving the requirements that provide affordable housing opportunities to families and individuals from all income segments of the population.

The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at Temecula City Hall, 43200 Business Park Drive, 2nd Floor, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2007. The purpose of this meeting will be to gain an understanding of the City’s requirements and obligations under existing State law, and to provide your opinions and insight into this process. Attendance is strictly voluntary but this workshop presents a forum for residents and property owners to express their opinions and ideas on the approach the City will take in updating the Housing Element.
