Temecula, CA – Temecula Presents invites local dancers to learn from renowned New York City Ballet veteran, Charles Anderson, choreographer and artistic director of Company C Contemporary Ballet on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Company C will be conducting their guest residency at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and will offer one master class in Dance and Choreography open to all local dancers at no charge. The first 30 reservations will be accepted from advanced and intermediate dance students.
Charles Anderson is the artistic director of Company C Contemporary Ballet from San Francisco, CA. Anderson danced with the New York City Ballet from 1985-93, performing works of George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins and many other notable choreographers. Born in San Francisco, Anderson trained at and received full scholarships to the San Francisco Ballet School, the Joffrey Ballet School, the American Ballet Theatre School and the School of American Ballet. He also attended the High School for the Performing Arts in New York City.
Anderson began choreographing ballets while still a dancer with the New York City Ballet. From 1990-1994, he co-founded and acted as artistic director for Ballet, Inc. in New York, where he choreographed many of his early works. He has been a resident choreographer at the Contra Costa Ballet for many years and served as artistic director and resident choreographer for the Bay Area modern dance troupe Moving Arts Dance from 1999-2000. Anderson's work reflects a blend of classical and contemporary influences and is included in the repertories of professional dance companies throughout the country.
Anderson will teach one master class at the Temecula Theater’s Dance Studio that is open to local dancers on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. This is a FREE class offered as part of the Temecula Presents residency. Company C Contemporary Ballet came to life in the summer of 2002. In a few short months, Anderson assembled a group of dancers to perform a program of his own choreography. The Company has grown rapidly since 2002, adding works by outside choreographers Twyla Tharp, David Parsons, Antony Tudor, Paul Taylor, James Sewell, Alexandre Proia, and Patrick Corbin. Company C Contemporary Ballet’s goal is to present a repertoire of choreography, contemporary in nature, that is moving, provocative, beautiful and entertaining.
Company C Contemporary Ballet will perform at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater on Friday, February 29 and Saturday, March 1st at 8 pm. and tickets are available at www.TemeculaTheater.org for $34 / $30 for seniors / $20 for students and youth.
