The Rosa Fire located in De Luz just southwest of the city limits is 85% contained and should be 100% contained by 6:00 p.m. Cal Fire and Temecula City Fire will maintain a presence until 6:00 p.m. Thursday upon which time the fire will be declared controlled.
The Rice Canyon Fire located in the Fallbrook area is currently headed south and west. There is a portion of the Rice Canyon Fire that is burning west toward the Santa Margarita drainage. Residents of De Luz Canyon in San Diego County have been asked to evacuate. There are currently no evacuation orders for De Luz residents in Riverside County. The Poomacha Fire located in the Valley Center area is currently 25,000 acres and threatening the communities of Escondido, Vista, and Mount Palomar. As the fire continues to burn north toward Mount Palomar Observatory it will be very visible from the southern portion of the City. This fire does not currently pose a threat to any of the residents of Morgan Hill, Vail Ranch, or unincorporated areas of Riverside County. CAL FIRE/Temecula Fire along with Temecula Police Department have deployed fire and police units in the Red Hawk/Wolf Creek area as a precautionary measure only. These resources will remain in the area until any potential threat from the fires burning in San Diego County have been abated.
Currently, evacuation shelters at the Community Recreation Center and Temecula Valley High School are full and all evacuees should be directed to Chaparral High School where there are sufficient resources. In addition, Vista Murrieta High School is also open and available to accept evacuees.
The City of Temecula is grateful for the outpouring of support and generosity from those offering to donate necessary items and services. In an effort to consolidate this continued effort, Rancho Community Church located on Temecula Parkway will now be accepting chapstick, toothbrushes, kids toothbrushes, toothpaste, eye drops, antiperspirant, sanitary napkins, diapers (all sizes), wipes, travel size soap, travel size shampoo, painter’s tape, masking tape, batteries (AA’s, C’s, D’s), Children’s DVD’s, pens, clipboards, notepads, bath towels, hair brushes, baby formula, adult diapers, shower shoes, baby blankets, and bottled water. No prepared food can be accepted.
For the residents of the south end of Temecula largely the Wolf Creek, Red Hawk, and Vail Ranch developments, there will be a community meeting this evening (Wednesday, October 24, 2007) at 6 p.m. at Great Oak High School with updates provided by CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department.
Finally, only the Police Department and the Fire Department have the authority to ask you to evacuate.
