RE: Appointment of Temecula Police Chief
The City of Temecula announces that Riverside County Sheriff Captain Jerry Williams is taking over as the City’s newest Police Chief. Captain Mitch Alm has served in that capacity for approximately 1 ½ years and will be moving into the Hemet Sheriff Station where he will be able to implement the progressive programs he started in Temecula. Captain Alm was credited with instituting zone policing in Temecula which resulted in the officers connecting personally with the residents they serve and also increased the effectiveness of the Police Department enforcement activities city-wide.
Chief Jerry Williams has been with the Riverside Sheriff’s Department for 21 years and started his career with the Los Angeles Police Department. Chief Williams has served as a Sergeant in Temecula and Lake Elsinore, and as a Lieutenant in the City of Moreno Valley. Chief Williams’ most recent assignment has been as the Captain responsible for the Southwest Detention Center. Chief Williams is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and also of the California Command College.
Mayor Chuck Washington stated, “We are very excited and looking forward to Chief Williams coming aboard.” City Manager Shawn Nelson also stated, “Chief Jerry Williams is community-oriented and will be a great addition to the City of Temecula team.”
Chief Williams is a very strong advocate of community policing and is excited to formally become an integral part of the City of Temecula. Chief Williams has been a resident of Temecula for 21 years and has watched the community grow over the years. Chief Williams stated, ”Becoming the Police Chief in the City of Temecula is a very exciting opportunity for me as I am very impressed with the City. It is my intention to do my part to further improve the quality of life for the citizens of this City and to do my best to serve the needs of the City Council and the residents of Temecula.”
