Temecula Earns Four Awards of Excellence from the California Parks and Recreation Society

The California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) presented awards to parks and recreation departments throughout the state for outstanding programs conducted during 2007 at its Annual Conference held in Long Beach in February, 2008. CPRS awards recognize those public agencies and individuals that publicize, develop and manage programs, parks, and facilities that provide accessibility, service to community, lifelong learning, diversity of experience, and environmental stewardship.

Awards were presented in four categories: park operations and maintenance, facility design and park planning, recreation and community service programs and agency showcase (for marketing materials and campaigns). The only city to receive four CPRS Awards of Excellence was the City of Temecula whose programs far exceeded award criteria. The winning categories included Agency Showcase Awards for the Old Town Temecula Community Theater’s Marketing Campaign and Temecula Presents’ Single Focus Brochure; and Facility Design & Park Planning Awards for the Temecula Public Library and Patricia H. Birdsall Sports Park.

The CPRS Award is the highest state recognition a parks agency can receive and proudly accepting Temecula’s four awards were: Community Services Commissioner, Charolette Fox; Director of Community Services, Herman Parker; Cathy McCarthy, Development Services Administrator; Cultural Arts Administrator, Martin Betz, and Patron Services Coordinator, Bea Barnett.
