If all goes as planned, tomorrow’s(1/4/2011) paving operation will complete the paving of the Winchester Road Rehab project. The contractor will be paving the intersection of Winchester & Margarita and a short segment of Winchester east of the intersection.
We anticipate that the travelling public will be impacted as the work necessitates closing lanes on both Winchester Road and Margarita Road. To facilitate paving through the intersection, traffic on Margarita will be prevented from passing through the intersection for brief periods of time as the paving operation crosses the intersection. NB Margarita Road traffic will be detoured around the worksite via Overland to Ynez to Winchester.
Today, the contractor is deploying message boards to all four approaches of the intersection warning motorists of the pending work.
FAQ’s:
Why is this work being done now? This segment of the road has deteriorated such that it needed attention prior to the next rainy season. Furthermore we avoided working between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and are now striving to complete the work while school is on winter break.
Why can’t this be done at night? The nighttime temperatures are too cold to allow adequate time to properly place and compact the rubberized asphalt concrete.
