Governor Jerry Brown has declared May 6-12, 2012 Wildfire Awareness Week to remind Californians to be prepared for wildfires and vigilant as the state approaches peak fire season. CAL FIRE will also be using the week to highlight the importance of the homeowner’s role in preparing their property and families ahead of time to survive a wildfire.

Prepare Your Home Fire Wild Fire!
California has experienced above average rainfall across the state. The increase in precipitation has left many areas and homes overgrown with vegetation. As warmer temperatures approach and the conditions become drier the potential for dangerous wild fire is eminent.
Homeowners should begin preparing for fire and take a proactive approach in creating and maintaining 100 feet of defensible space around their property. While the grass is still green residents should take care of the overgrown brush, trees and weeds.
CAL Fire launched the "Ready, Set, Go!" campaign last summer. Click on the CAL Fire link below for more information on defensible space, wildfire and what you can do to be prepared in the event of a wild fire.
