The Heartsaver First Aid course, developed using the same evidence-based process as all American Heart Association courses, provides training in basic first-aid procedures -- including the first-aid skills recommended by OSHA -- in a format that can be delivered in a single day. Also offered are elective modules in CPR, AED and environmental emergencies.
The Heartsaver First Aid course is specially designed to train anyone who might be "first to respond" in the workplace or community, and can be tailored to address the needs of a specific workplace or group of employees.
The course provides the needed skills to effectively assess a medical condition and maintain life during the critical moments immediately following an emergency and until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. A video-based instruction format enables students to experience case-based scenarios in a realistic setting. Instructors introduce a topic, followed by a video segment that presents cases for discussion or demonstrates a particular skill. Students then practice the skill in small groups.
Students will learn about and the treatment for:
- Breathing problems
- Chest pain and heart attack
- Diabetes, stroke, seizure, bleeding and shock, head injuries, injuries to bones, joints, and muscles, bites, stings, poisoning, heat or cold emergencies, and burns.
Students will be expected to perform all skills taught in the class. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued a certification card. There will be no course refund after instruction has been delivered.
